Building strong relationships with legislators and legislative staff is critical to maintaining and enhancing a political environment that promotes philanthropy and charitable giving.
Foundations on the Hill - District Days, co-sponsored by the Council on Foundations and the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, is an opportunity for Members of Congress to hear directly from their foundation and regional association constituents while they are back in their home states and districts during Congressional recess.
In March 2010, 214 foundation and regional association representatives from 32 states and the District of Columbia traveled to Washington, DC to meet with their Senators and Representatives during Foundations on the Hill (FOTH). District Days is a chance for FOTH 2010 participants to reconnect with their members of Congress back home. For foundation leaders unable to participate in FOTH 2010, District Days is an opportunity to start building relationships with their Senators and Representatives in their state or district.
The Council on Foundations and the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers will provide the tools you need to schedule and prepare for your district meetings. You can find a sample district meeting request letters, state/district office contact information, talking points and meeting tips on this website. And Council and Forum staff are ready to assist you if you have questions or need additional information.
